Kostović families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Trogir area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Trogir area and in Split. In Vinišće in Trogir area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Kostović.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Kostović live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Vinisce in Trogir area (45), Split (45), Zagreb (25), Trogir (20), and in Pula (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1930 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
