In Croatia, Kostiha families are generally Croats (from Vrbovec area ), very rarely Czechs (also from Vrbovec area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Vrbovec area. In Žabnica in Cazma area every twentieth inhabitant had the family name Kostiha.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Kostiha live in Croatia today, in 14 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in four Croatian counties and 8 other places, mostly in Ivanic-Grad (<10), Hrvatski Leskovac (<10), in Nova Kapela (<5) and Stara Kapela (<5) in Vrbovec area, and in Varazdin (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
