Kosić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Krk , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Krk and in Rijeka. In Bok in Bosanian Posavina every sixth inhabitant had the family name Kosić.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Kosić live in Croatia today, in 530 households. There were 1100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 62 cities and 132 other places, mostly in Zagreb (195), Vrh on the Island of Krk (185), Rijeka (75), Krk on the Island of Krk (70), and in Zupanja (60).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
