Korotaj families are Croats and they are mostly from Ivanec area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Ivanec area and in Slovenia. In places Veliki Lovrečan and Mali Lovrečan in Ivanec area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Korotaj.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Korotaj live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 27 other places, mostly in Zagreb (30), Varazdin (20), Cestica in Ivanec area (20), Virovitica (10), and in Beretinec in Varazdin area (<10).
Outside Croatia
At least two families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to the United States (1) and Switzerland (1). Family name Korotaj (including: Korotay , Korotai ) is present in 13 countries on four continents.
