About 440 people with faimily name Kopjar live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 24 other places, mostly in Remetinec (120), Zagreb (75), Novi Marof (50), Strmec Remetinecki (25), and in Orehovec (20).
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to Germany (2) and the United States (1). Family name Kopjar (including: Kopyar , Kopiar and Chopyar ) is present in 12 countries on four continents. "Kopyar " is used by some 80 people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
