Komar families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Drnis area , barely Slovaks (Djakovo area), and Montenegrins (Niksic, Montenegro). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Drnis area. In Donje Vinovo in Drnis area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Komar.
Prevalence
About 720 people with faimily name Komar live in Croatia today, in 270 households. There were 570 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 35 cities and 60 other places, mostly in Split (130), Zagreb (90), Bedekovcina in Lepoglava area (55), Spisic Bukovica in Virovitica area (55), and in Solin (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
