Kolonić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Cakovec area , less frequently Bosniaks (from Bosnian Krajina ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Bosnian Krajina (Prijedor area).
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Kolonić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 24 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Rijeka (20), Koprivnica (10), Kutina (<10), and in Crikvenica (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
