Kolar families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Djurdjevac area , barely Serbs and Hungarians (Beli Manastir area). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Koprivnica. In Balići in Middle Bosnia every sixth inhabitant had the family name Kolar.
Prevalence
About 2800 people with faimily name Kolar live in Croatia today, in 1200 households. There were 3300 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 86 cities and 323 other places, mostly in Zagreb (470), Koprivnica (90), Pregrada (65), Sisak (55), and in Cakovec (50).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned about one hundred times, the first time 1664 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
