Kokot families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Ivanec area , according to some sources they are from Labin, very rarely Slovenes (from Slovenia ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Ivanec area. In Malo Gradišće in Ivanec area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Kokot.
Prevalence
About 710 people with faimily name Kokot live in Croatia today, in 300 households. There were 870 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 29 cities and 95 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Varazdin (35), Dugo Selo (35), Donja Reka (30), and in Gornja Voca in Ivanec area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
