In Croatia, Kobas families are predominantly Croats (from Samobor area ), rarely Serbs, and barely Bosniaks (from Rijeka ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Vrbovec area. In Petrov Gaj in Bosnian Krajina every seventh inhabitant had the family name Kobas.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Kobas live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, four cities and four other places, mostly in Gornji Stupnik in Samobor area (10), Rijeka (<10), Sveta Nedelja in Samobor area (<10), Zagreb (<10), and in Lucko (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
