Knezović families are Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area. According to some sources they are from Siroki Brijeg and Posusje (Herzegovina). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Mostar area) and in Split. In places Goranci , Broćanac and Dužice in Herzegovina every eighth inhabitant had the family name Knezović.
Prevalence
About 1700 people with faimily name Knezović live in Croatia today, in 660 households. There were 600 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 60 cities and 99 other places, mostly in Zagreb (375), Split (255), Stobrec (110), Sesvete (85), and in Arzano in Omis area (70).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1742 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
