Kiš families are often Croats and they are mostly from Osijek , rarely Hungarians (from Beli Manastir area ) and Rusyns (from Vukovar ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 1500 people with faimily name Kiš live in Croatia today, in 700 households. There were 1700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 71 cities and 183 other places, mostly in Zagreb (235), Osijek (100), Koprivnica (40), Bjelovar (30), and in Vukovar (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
