Kirigin families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Brac. According to some sources they are Italian origin (Chiogga). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Brac and in Split.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Kirigin live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and four other places, mostly in Split (40), in Supetar (30) and Mirca (25) on the Island of Brac, Zagreb (25), and in Dubrovnik (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
