Kelava families are Croats and they are mostly from western Bosnia (Rosko polje). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Western Bosnia (Tomislavgrad area) and in Western Bosnia (Livno area). In places Vojkovići and Dobro in Western Bosnia every third inhabitant had the family name Kelava.
Prevalence
About 1400 people with faimily name Kelava live in Croatia today, in 510 households. There were 240 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 62 cities and 110 other places, mostly in Zagreb (305), Split (85), Sinj (70), Sesvete (55), and in Vinkovci (50).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
