Katić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Ogulin area. According to some sources they are from Stolac area, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Ogulin area. In places Dobrenići and Mrežnički Brest in Ogulin area every third inhabitant had the family name Katić.
Prevalence
About 3700 people with faimily name Katić live in Croatia today, in 1600 households. There were 3400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 96 cities and 328 other places, mostly in Zagreb (410), Split (260), Solin (160), Karlovac (140), and in Rijeka (85).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over eighty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
