Katavić families are Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area. According to some sources they are from Rama (north Herzegovina), Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Doboj, Bosnia (Doboj area) and in Imotski area. In Gornji Proložac in Imotski area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Katavić.
Prevalence
About 1000 people with faimily name Katavić live in Croatia today, in 380 households. There were 480 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 39 cities and 68 other places, mostly in Zagreb (200), Slavonski Brod (125), Split (115), Makarska (45), and in Stobrec (35).
