Katanić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Pleternica , often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pleternica and Nasice.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Katanić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 19 other places, mostly in Zagreb (35), Zagradje (25), Slavonski Kobas in Pleternica area (20), Bijelo Brdo in Vinkovci area (15), and in Slavonski Brod (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1924 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
