Surname Kasap in modern Croatia

Kasap families are often Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Zagreb. In Majdan in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Kasap.

Prevalence

About 160 people with faimily name Kasap live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 15 other places, mostly in Zadar (40), Zagreb (35), Zemunik Donji in Zadar area (20), Majdan in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (<10), and in Rijeka (<10).

Family name Kasap (including: Kashap , Casap , Kassap , Kaszap , Khasap , Kasapp and Cassap ) is present in 57 countries worldwide. "Kassap " is used by some 200 people in Turkey , about 100 in Egypt , and some 50 people in the United States.
