Kardaš families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Petrinja , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Petrinja and Sisak. In Dragotinci in Petrinja every fourth inhabitant had the family name Kardaš.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Kardaš live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Petrinja (35), Dragotinci (25), Sisak (20), Pula (15), and in Kraljevcani (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1933 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
