Karaica families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Glina , whereas often Croats (from Osijek ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Glina and Osijek. In Veliki Gradac in Glina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Karaica.
Prevalence
About 90 people with faimily name Karaica live in Croatia today, in 40 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Osijek (25), Zagreb (15), Tenja (15), Glina (<10), and in Karlovac (<10).
Outside Croatia
At least four families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Germany (1), the United Kingdom (1), the United States (1), and to Austria (1). Family name Karaica is present in 7 countries on three continents. The family name "Karaica " is used by small number of people in the United States.
