Kapović families are Croats, originally from village Prapatnice near Vrgorca , one group migrated to Opuzen, and the other to the Island of Vir. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and in Nin area.
Prevalence
About 450 people with faimily name Kapović live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 330 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 29 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Vir in Nin area (100), Rijeka (55), Zagreb (40), Opuzen (40), and in Zadar (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
