In Croatia, Kapel families are generally Croats (from Pozega area ), rarely Italians (from Buje ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pozega and Bjelovar.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Kapel live in Croatia today, in 11 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties and threee other places, mostly in Toranj in Pozega area (15), Tuk in Bjelovar area (<10), Buje (<5), Nedescina in Labin area (<5), and in Srednje Selo (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
