Kanjer families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Delnice area. According to some sources they are from Bokanjca (danas dio Zadra), rarely Italians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Rijeka.
Prevalence
About 130 people with faimily name Kanjer live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and threee other places, mostly in Zadar (80), Delnice (10), Mrkopalj in Delnice area (10), Rijeka (<10), and in Umag (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
