Kalić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Slunj area , rarely Serbs and Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Slunj area and in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Velika Kladusa area). In Šmrekovac in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every eighth inhabitant had the family name Kalić.

About 290 people with faimily name Kalić live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 290 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Dolina in Nova Gradiska area (50), Zagreb (30), Stari Mikanovci in Djakovo area (30), Osijek (20), and in Karlovac (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1721 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
