Jurjević families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Obrovac. According to some sources they are from Bosnia, very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Obrovac. In Kruševo in Obrovac every tenth inhabitant had the family name Jurjević.
Prevalence
About 1800 people with faimily name Jurjević live in Croatia today, in 720 households. There were 1500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 57 cities and 105 other places, mostly in Zadar (340), Zagreb (245), Split (140), Lumbarda on the Island of Korcula (100), and in Krusevo (80).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1750 in source 18th Century Census.
