Josipović families are usually Croats and they are mostly from western Bosnia , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Banja Luka Region, Bosnia (Banja Luka area) and in Bosanian Posavina (Gradacac area). In Motike in Western Bosnia every fifth inhabitant had the family name Josipović.
Prevalence
About 2600 people with faimily name Josipović live in Croatia today, in 1100 households. There were 770 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than tripled. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 78 cities and 292 other places, mostly in Zagreb (415), Rijeka (100), Osijek (85), Semeljci in Djakovo area (75), and in Petrinja (70).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1750 in source 18th Century Census.
