Jerković families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Opuzen area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Derventa area) and in Split. In Janjac in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Jerković.
Prevalence
About 3600 people with faimily name Jerković live in Croatia today, in 1500 households. There were 2100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 89 cities and 289 other places, mostly in Zagreb (440), Slavonski Brod (350), Split (340), Metkovic (185), and in Rijeka (140).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
