Jeličić families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Middle Bosnia (Jajce area). In Šibenica in Middle Bosnia every third inhabitant had the family name Jeličić.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Jeličić live in Croatia today, in 510 households. There were 820 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 53 cities and 99 other places, mostly in Split (205), Zagreb (185), Selce (80), Biograd na moru (55), and in Gornji Muc in Sinj area (50).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1689 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
