Jelinić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Gospic. According to some sources they are from Herzegovina or Italy, rarely Roms (also from Gospic ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Gospic and Slavonski Brod. In Gornja Močila in Bosanian Posavina every seventh inhabitant had the family name Jelinić.
Prevalence
About 820 people with faimily name Jelinić live in Croatia today, in 340 households. There were 440 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 48 cities and 95 other places, mostly in Zagreb (125), Slavonski Brod (120), Gospic (40), Cernik in Nova Gradiska area (35), and in Metkovic (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
