Jelenić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Pazin area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Pula. In Šivati in Pazin area every second inhabitant had the family name Jelenić.
Prevalence
About 820 people with faimily name Jelenić live in Croatia today, in 350 households. There were 740 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 44 cities and 92 other places, mostly in Zagreb (85), Pula (65), Stari Mikanovci in Djakovo area (55), Cakovec (45), and in Kozice (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
