Jelaš families are Croats and they are mostly from Vrgorac. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Banja Luka Region, Bosnia (Banja Luka area) and in Vrgorac. In Dragljane in Vrgorac every fifth inhabitant had the family name Jelaš.
Prevalence
About 340 people with faimily name Jelaš live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 45 other places, mostly in Makarska (35), in Popovaca (25) and Voloder (25) in Kutina area, Split (20), and in Metkovic (15).
