Javor families are often Croats and they are mostly from Senj area , less frequently Serbs and Bosniaks (also from Bosnian Krajina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Senj area and in Zagreb.

About 380 people with faimily name Javor live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 380 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 34 cities and 32 other places, mostly in Zagreb (100), Brinje in Senj area (35), Rijeka (25), Slatina (15), and in Brodski Stupnik in Pleternica area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
