In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Cazin area) and in Oroslavje area. In Kadića Brdo in Romania (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Japić.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Japić live in Croatia today, in 18 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 5 other places, mostly in Zagreb (<10), Cernik in Rijeka area (<10), Sisak (<10), Donja Bistra in Oroslavje area (<10), and in Vukovar (<5).
Outside Croatia
At least two families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to the United States (1) and Austria (1). Family name Japić (including: Yapici , Japic and Lyapich ) is present in 33 countries worldwide. The family name "Japic " is used by small number of people in the United States.
