Janjić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina , less frequently Serbs and Montenegrins. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Orasje area) and in Bosanian Posavina (Modrica area). In Vidovice in Bosanian Posavina every eighth inhabitant had the family name Janjić.
Prevalence
About 980 people with faimily name Janjić live in Croatia today, in 440 households. There were 770 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 64 cities and 131 other places, mostly in Zagreb (165), Split (60), Osijek (60), Zupanja (50), and in Bosnjaci in Zupanja area (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
