Jakšić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Brac , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Karlovac. In Jakšinec in Donja Stubica area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Jakšić.
Prevalence
About 2700 people with faimily name Jakšić live in Croatia today, in 1300 households. There were 3100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 87 cities and 250 other places, mostly in Zagreb (500), Karlovac (175), Rijeka (120), Osijek (95), and in Split (90).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned about one hundred times, the first time 1683 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
