Jakić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Imotski area and in Metkovic. In Pozla Gora in Vrgorac area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Jakić.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Jakić live in Croatia today, in 490 households. There were 940 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 121 other places, mostly in Zagreb (210), Metkovic (110), Runovic in Imotski area (95), Prud (65), and in Split (60).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1701 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
