Jakelić families are Croats and they are mostly from Drnis. According to some sources they are from Livno and Tomislavgrad area (Bosnia/Herzegovina). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and Drnis. In Pakovo Selo in Drnis every sixth inhabitant had the family name Jakelić.
Prevalence
About 540 people with faimily name Jakelić live in Croatia today, in 220 households. There were 350 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 27 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Split (120), Zagreb (95), Sibenik (70), Drnis (30), and in Prugovo in Solin area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
