Ivanković families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina. According to some sources they are from Velikog Trgovisca, or Zenica (Bosnia), or Montenegro, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Herzegovina (Siroki Brijeg area). In places Kočerin and Poklečani in Herzegovina every ninth inhabitant had the family name Ivanković.
Prevalence
About 3600 people with faimily name Ivanković live in Croatia today, in 1500 households. There were 2100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 94 cities and 314 other places, mostly in Zagreb (920), Osijek (150), Slavonski Brod (140), Split (130), and in Sesvete (95).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1689 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
