Ivan families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Zagreb , also Rusyns (from Vukovar ), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Vukovar and Zagreb. In Petrovci in Vukovar area every fiftieth inhabitant had the family name Ivan.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Ivan live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 16 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Petrovci in Vukovar area (15), Dalj in Vinkovci area (<10), Poljana (<10), and in Velika Gorica (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
