Ilić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , less frequently Serbs, according to some sources the family name originates from south Serbia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Bosnian Krajina (Teslic area). In Komušina Gornja in Bosnian Krajina every seventh inhabitant had the family name Ilić.
Prevalence
About 3800 people with faimily name Ilić live in Croatia today, in 1700 households. There were 2400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 97 cities and 341 other places, mostly in Zagreb (745), Pula (140), Split (120), Metkovic (120), and in Osijek (115).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
