Hržić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Krk. According to some sources vuku korijene from Rosko Polje, northwest Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Samobor and on the Island of Brac. In Velika Rakovica in Samobor every fifth inhabitant had the family name Hržić.
Prevalence
About 420 people with faimily name Hržić live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 440 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 28 cities and 42 other places, mostly in Zagreb (65), Supetar on the Island of Brac (55), Prelog (35), Samobor (25), and in Malinska on the Island of Krk (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
