Hrustić families can be both Croats from Zagreb area (Kasina, Planina) and Bosniaks from Bosnian Krajina , rarely Roms. According to some sources the family name originates from Tuzla (Kreka, Bukinje). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Bosnian Krajina (Prijedor area). In Beširevići in Podrinje (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Hrustić.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Hrustić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 19 other places, mostly in Zagreb (135), Sesvete (35), Rajevo Selo in Zupanja area (10), Rijeka (10), and in Opatija (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1769 in source 18th Century Census.
