Hrstić families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from east Herzegovina , rarely Serbs and Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area) and in East Herzegovina (Trebinje area). In Grab in East Herzegovina every tenth inhabitant had the family name Hrstić.
Prevalence
About 300 people with faimily name Hrstić live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 26 other places, mostly in Zagreb (65), Split (55), Vrgorac (20), Makarska (20), and in Drasnice in Makarska area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1935 in source Faculty of Humanities University of Zagreb Alumni.
