In Croatia, Hil families are almost entirely Croats (from Vinkovci area ), very rarely Italians (from Pula ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and in Vinkovci area.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Hil live in Croatia today, in 17 households. There were 40 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Pula (<10), Ivankovo in Vinkovci area (<10), Zagreb (<10), Kukurini in Pazin area (<10), and in Cerna in Zupanja area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1927 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
