Gvozdić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Slunj , whereas often Croats (from Zupanja area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and Slunj. In Cvijanović Brdo in Slunj every ninth inhabitant had the family name Gvozdić.
Prevalence
About 270 people with faimily name Gvozdić live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 28 cities and 29 other places, mostly in Karlovac (50), Zagreb (35), Soljani in Zupanja area (30), Zupanja (<10), and in Dubovac in Nova Gradiska area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
