Gržetić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Krk. According to some sources they are from Krasa na Krku. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Pazin. In Zarečje in Pazin every fifth inhabitant had the family name Gržetić.
Prevalence
About 300 people with faimily name Gržetić live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 380 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 30 other places, mostly in Rijeka (45), Zarecje (40), Pazin (30), Zagreb (15), and in Pula (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
