Grbić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area (Nin), often Serbs, and very rarely Bosniaks (from Bosnian Krajina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and in Zadar area. In Privlaka in Zadar area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Grbić.
Prevalence
About 1100 people with faimily name Grbić live in Croatia today, in 640 households. There were 1500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 57 cities and 128 other places, mostly in Zagreb (200), Privlaka in Zadar area (180), Zadar (125), Rijeka (70), and in Split (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
