Grbavac families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area) and in Imotski area. In Jezernice in Podrinje (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Grbavac.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Grbavac live in Croatia today, in 490 households. There were 310 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 55 cities and 124 other places, mostly in Zagreb (205), Sesvete (95), Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (90), Split (75), and in Vrgorac (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1673 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
