Grbac families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Buzet area. According to some sources they are from Lika, Herzegovina, or Boke Kotorske, barely Italians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Pula. In Lanišće in Buzet area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Grbac.
Prevalence
About 910 people with faimily name Grbac live in Croatia today, in 410 households. There were 1000 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 47 cities and 68 other places, mostly in Rijeka (180), Zagreb (110), Pula (95), Kastav (40), and in Lanisce in Buzet area (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
