In Croatia, Grassi families are predominantly Croats (from the Island of Lastovo ), rarely Italians (from Umag ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and on the Island of Brac.
Prevalence
About 20 people with faimily name Grassi live in Croatia today, in 14 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located and four other Croatian places, mostly in Umag (<10), Split (<10), Zagreb (<5), Milna on the Island of Brac (<5), and in Babici (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1925 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
